Last week we published a blog about a 17 year old freshmen at an alternative school in Fall River whose father was complaining on TV that the police were too rough with his son in a viral video.

Many took to social media to complain about the alleged brutality.

The FRPD did a thorough review and released video footage of what led up to the incident. Upon further review it appears as if the entire thing was justified.

As you saw in the video, the student went to the principal’s office, wasn’t pleased with whatever was said, and so he took out his frustration by knocking over a desk calendar sitting on the counter.

The police officer was not aggressive, but rather seemed disappointed and threw his arms up in the air as if to say, “Why would you do that?”

The student then goes back to the security officer’s desk and continued to cause destruction by clearing his desk of some objects.

After that the police attempted to restrain him, he pushed them, and they began to wrestle down the stairs. This was when the original video began filming.

So there you have it. The father who made excuses for his son probably should’ve waited for the facts to come up before rushing to judgement and blaming the police. If kids act like this in publicly funded schools they need to be removed. If they refuse to leave then force is required to remove them. Teachers are not trained in how to do this, so that’s why we need police in every high school in the country. Remember this the next time an activist complains about the “school to prison pipeline.” In order to make sure that schools are safe we have to remove problematic students like this one. Offering them counseling to sit down and talk about their feelings is off the table the second they start causing destruction and assaulting adults. The safety and learning environment of others is more important than the well intentioned desire to keep all students in school.
